About
My name is Michelle Chinyere Uzoh. I am 32 years old, a Master’s student in Media Studies in Tübingen and active in Stuttgart’s club scene as DJ Immi Bakes. Music plays a major role in my life, not only behind the decks but also as a cultural, social and political phenomenon.
With B-Side Stories I bring together my passion for dance music and my academic interest in media: What role do journalistic texts play in club culture? Who gains visibility through them and who does not? What do they reveal about the scene, its key players and the structures behind it?
For me this project is much more than a thesis. It is a personal exploration, a platform to amplify voices that are often overlooked in coverage of club culture. At the same time it is a space for me to step into the role of a voice myself and dive deeper into the stories behind the music. B-Side Stories will hopefully not end with my studies. It is a beginning and perhaps the start of something that will continue to grow in the future.
